Tough new anti-hooning laws have passed through the Lower House of State Parliament.
Police Minister and Braddon MP Felix Ellis says the passage through the House of Assembly is a step closer to putting the brakes on those that feel they’re above the law when on the roads.
Under the new laws, Mr Ellis says authorities will be able to throw the book at the people who selfishly put other road users in danger, especially those who put their antics on-line, labelling them Tik Tok turkeys.
Changes to the laws will allow for increasing the amount of time a vehicle is clamped or confiscated, almost doubling the penalties for dangerous and reckless driving – and for repeat offenders – sending their vehicle straight to the crusher.
Mr Ellis says importantly, the new laws will also make road rage an offence.
