Bass state Labor MP Janie Finlay has added her voice to the protests over the decision by supermarket giant Coles to shut down its Launceston distribution centre.

The decision which will be implemented over the next three to five years is expected to cost as many as 60 jobs.

Coles has confirmed it is spending $880 million to set up an automated distribution centre in Victoria which will also serve Tasmania.

Questions have also been raised with regard to increased product prices associated with bringing food across Bass Strait.

Ms Finlay says the decision is disappointing but is encouraged to hear there’s a dialogue between Coles and the union to make sure workers’ voices are heard throughout the process.
