Chamber hoping for boost for local business in budget

It’s state Budget day today.

Treasurer and Bass MP Michael Ferguson will reveal the details later this afternoon but he has conceded there’s a heavy borrowing component.

The budget is expected to confirm the state’s debt will increase to $8.5 billion by 2027/28.

Launceston Chamber of Commerce CEO Alina Bain is hoping there’s measures to enable local business to thrive.

“I’d like to see measures that enable local business to generate economic activity,” she said.

“And while we notice that the Treasurer has talked about infrastructure build, and infrastructure is very important. We know the multiplier effect of these projects, we want to make sure they are the right infrastructure projects.”
