A 62 year old Clarendon Vale man died in a boating mishap in the Fort Direction area at South Arm this morning.
Large waves tipped over the boat which had engine failure.
His neighbour, who was on the fishing trip and wearing a life jacket, managed to make his way to shore to raise the alarm, with Inspector Andrew Keane acknowledging circumstances could have been different.
“He’s probably very fortunate the tide had been going in at the time, if it had been the other way he would have really struggled to get back to shore.”
The man who survived was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
