The state’s infrastructure minister is calling on the federal government to provide its share of funding for a second bridge across the Tamar River.
Kerry Vincent says the federal government has the chance to provide certainty for Northern Tasmania and deliver the infrastructure which would mean transport reliability across the region.
He says Anthony Albanese still has time to deliver on a Christmas wish.
“Anthony Albanese still has eight sleeps to deliver a great Santa’s gift to Launceston residents by working with us to build the Tamar River Bridge,” he said.
“As the federal government attempts to make things right with Tasmanians after years of delays and indecision, they have another chance to provide certainty for northern Tasmanians.
“It will be a game changer for safety and transport reliability across Launceston and the Tamar Valley.
“The state government has committed $80 million towards the construction of a second Tamar River crossing between the West Tamar Highway and the East Tamar Highway north of University Way in Newnham.
“Our commitment is in stark contrast to Labor who have failed to support a second river crossing for over six years.”
